At Basal, building healthy communities is at the heart of everything we do and all our decision making. Therefore, since we opened in July, sustainability has been a pillar of our business because we believe it is the right thing for the health of our local and global communities. We have incorporated ceramic plates and drinkware, along with second-hand silverware for guests who dine-in in order to reduce our waste. All our to-go packaging is corn- or paper-based and compostable to reduce our reliance on plastics and fossil fuels. We have a weekly compost pickup through Missoula Compost Collection, a mixed recycling pickup twice per week and a monthly glass recycling pickup through Recycling Works to ensure we divert as much waste from the landfill as possible.

Our goal at Basal is to be ZERO by THIRTY because we believe that time is of the essence. We aspire to be a business that can help raise awareness about the importance of reducing waste and help support the ZERO by FIFTY movement. We look forward to the results of our waste audit and learning how we can continually improve as our community works toward this admirable and critical objective.
